Two pieces of news, and both are good.
SNAFF 2027 runs Thursday, July 8 through Sunday, July 11 at the Capitol Theater in Burlington. Mark the calendar — the full schedule and passes follow next summer.
Submissions are open now. We had planned to open in October, but FilmFreeway went live on September 1, so send us your film.
Deadlines
- Early deadline — November 1, 2026
- Regular deadline — February 1, 2027
- Final deadline — April 1, 2027
- Notifications — May 1, 2027
Fees step up at each deadline, so early is cheapest: shorts are $25 standard / $15 student at the early deadline, rising to $45 / $35 by the final one. Short screenplays start at $15 / $10.
What we're looking for
Short films of 35 minutes or less, produced in 2025, 2026 or 2027, in these categories: dramatic, comedy, documentary, horror, animation, sci-fi / fantasy, and music videos. Category winners go on to compete for Best of the Fest.
We also accept unproduced short screenplays of 15 pages or less. Selected scripts get a live table read on the Capitol stage and compete for the Andy Wassom Writer's Block award.
No fan films, and no films that use generative AI for substantive creative elements — the full rules, including the AI policy, are on the FilmFreeway page.
